Intern for MoveOn.org

Paid Internship: Start-up phase of exciting new global version of MoveOn.org

Global public opinion has been called the world's "Second Superpower", but a yawning gap persists between the views and values of the world's peoples and the policies that govern them.

Res Publica, in partnership with MoveOn.org, is launching an online activist community to fill this gap using the proven organizing techniques of online activism. The community will address pressing
global issues of peace and security, poverty, human rights and the environment with effective and edgy transnational actions. We plan to bring together, for the first time, millions of people around the world who favor a more progressive vision of globalization.

The organization will begin with 20 full time staff located in 6 countries and a much larger number of volunteers, and will follow an ambitious growth path. It will launch with 700,000 members spread across 148 countries. An Advisory Board for the project comprises politicians, diplomats, activists and celebrities from around the world.

What we are looking for: We are currently recruiting for two interns to assist in the critical start-up phase of the organization, as we prepare to launch in late summer/early fall. Interns may assist with research, outreach, campaign development and strategy, liaising with web and communications partners, development of online content and some administrative tasks.

You should be: politically progressive, internet savvy, have a strong  educational background, be passionately interested in international affairs and politics, have sophisticated written and oral communication skills and enjoy working in a start-up environment. Experience working on political or NGO campaigns is a plus, as is a policy/academic background in international affairs. Applications from students (undergraduate or graduate) are encouraged.

If you're interested, send a short resume ASAP to Jeremy Heimans at recruitment@therespublica.org along with a brief cover note explaining why you are interested in the position. Interns will be paid a stipend – this is negotiable depending on level of experience. Positions may be full or part-time, and length of internship will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
