1. The CPU "Philosophy, Culture, and Society" Series: David Rees,
Political Cartoonist: "To Hell in a Handbasket"

Description: David Rees began his online political cartoon "Get Your
War On" in October 2001. The profane satire about the war on
terrorism now appears in every issue of Rolling Stone. David is
also the author of "My New Fighting Technique is Unstoppable" and
"My New Filing Technique is Unstoppable," which appears in The
Guardian(UK).

Rees has donated nearly $100,000 of the sales of "Get Your War On"
and "Get Your War On II" to a crew of deminers in western
Afghanistan. He has read at numerous festivals and institutions,
including the HBO Comedy Festival, 215 Festival in Philadelphia,
Texas Book Festival, Blue Metropolis Literary Festival, Harvard
University, Princeton University, and Yale University.

His comics have appeared in GQ Magazine, Middle East Report, JANE
Magazine, Blender Magazine, Punk Planet Magazine, The New York
Observer, Bizarre Magazine, New York Press, and the Chicago Reader.

2. The CPU Presents: The Media That Matters Film Festival

Date: Monday, 10/10
Time: 8PM
Location: Roone Arledge Cinema, Alfred Lerner Hall

Description: The Media That Matters Film Festival (MTM) features 16
short films that seeks to engage young people in the political
process by addressing issues - among others - of sustainability,
social justice, and identity. Now in its fifth season, MTM is in
the midst of a year-long national tour.

The 16 featured films of MTM were culled from over 450 entries from
producers from all around the world. The event will feature a
screening of the 16 chosen films, to be followed by a Q&A session
with a number of directors and producers.

MTM is sponsored each year by Media Rights, a non-profit
organization that connects filmmakers, activists, educators and
youth through a variety of online and offline projects.
