2. Get involved! Become a deputy today! (UPDATED)

The CPU invites all interested members to apply for our open deputy
positions. Deputies will assist the Executive Board in all aspects
of CPU programming. It's a great way to get involved - especially
if you're interested in someday joining the Executive Board.

Please find below a brief description of the open deputy positions.
Our Executive Board members will be on hand at the Meet and Greet to
answer your questions and provide more details. See you there!

REMINDERS/CLARIFICATIONS:

- If you have already received an Events Deputy application, the
deadline is Tuesday, 09/13 at 8PM. Please contact Wei Wei Hsing
(fwh2101@columbia.edu) with any questions.

- If you attended the first Meet and Greet but have not yet
received an application, please contact the relevant E-Board member
immediately. Contact information is listed below.

- Application deadlines apply only to those who have already
received applications. If you're coming to the second Meet and
Greet, you'll be able to join our second round of applications. So
don't worry - you'll have plenty of time to apply.

- Due to the overwhelming response, the Executive Board is
considering expanding the number of available deputy positions.

A. Events Coordinator: The Events Coordinator is seeking five
(5) deputies for Fall 2005. Several deputies will be placed in
charge of our new speaking series. All deputies will assist the
Events Coordinator with tasks including, but not limited to:
drafting and sending invitations to potential speakers; organizing
expert panels and debates; corresponding with invitees' offices and
advance staff; working with Columbia administrators to plan event
logistics; and various other aspects of event staging. Deputies
will have the opportunity to meet and work closely with our
distinguished guests. (For more information, please contact Wei Wei
Hsing at fwh2101@columbia.edu.)

B. Director of Communications: The Director of Communications
is seeking two (2) deputies for Fall 2005. Responsibilities will
include but are not limited to: working with on- and off-campus
print and television media, conducting outreach to community
groups, publicizing events, and handling all activities related to
the public image of the Columbia Political Union. Deputies
should also expect to work to establish contacts and build our
presence within the graduate schools and the larger city-wide
political community. Furthermore, deputies will be responsible for
helping to create and distribute press releases for all CPU events,
which will be issued in conjunction with our weekly flyering and
leafleting activities. (For more information, please contact Geoff

DAEs will work with the Art Editor to commission and design
illustrations for the magazine to prepare them for publication.
DAEs will be responsible for assigning artists to specific articles
and, when applicable, helping them to design the illustrations and
images. Deputies will also be expected to prepare art work for
publication. The DDEs will work with the Design Editor to prepare
the magazine for printing. This will involve laying out articles

considered for the job. (For more information, please contact Matt

held in late fall; and managing the CPU budget. In addition, as our
