2. Get involved - Become a CPU Deputy!

Deputies will work closely with the Executive Board in all aspects
of our programming. Please find below a brief description of open
deputy positions. Our E-Board members will provide specific
instructions on how to apply for these positions at the Meet and
Greet on Wednesday night (09/07, 8PM, Lerner Piano Lounge).

A. Events Coordinator: The Events Coordinator is seeking five
(5) deputies for Fall 2005. Several deputies will be placed in
charge of our new speaking series. All deputies will assist the
Events Coordinator with tasks including, but not limited to:
drafting and sending invitations to potential speakers; organizing
expert panels and debates; corresponding with invitees' offices and
advance staff; working with Columbia administrators to plan event
logistics; and various other aspects of event staging. Deputies
will have the opportunity to meet and work closely with our
distinguished guests.

B. Director of Communications: The Director of Communications
is seeking two (2) deputies for Fall 2005. Responsibilities will
include but are not limited to: working with on- and off-campus
print and television media, conducting outreach to community
groups, publicizing events, and handling all activities related to
the public image of the Columbia Political Union. The deputies
should also expect to work to establish contacts and build presence
within the graduate schools and the larger city-wide political
community. Furthermore, deputies will be responsible for helping to
create and distribute press releases for all CPU events, which will
be issued in conjunction with our weekly flyering and leafleting
activities.

C. Columbia Political Review, Editor-in-Chief: The CPR
Editor-in-Chief is seeking four (4) deputies for Fall 2005 - two
Deputy Art Editors (DAE), and two Deputy Design Editors (DDE).
DAEs will work with the Art Editor to commission and design
illustrations for the magazine to prepare them for publication.
DAEs will be responsible for assigning artists to specific articles
and, when applicable, helping them to design the illustrations and
images. Deputies will also be expected to prepare art work for
publication. The DDEs will work with the Design Editor to prepare
the magazine for printing. This will involve laying out articles
and editing illustrations and advertisements. While experience
with Quark is preferred, general enthusiasm is all you need to be
considered for the job.

D. Treasurer: The Treasurer is seeking four to five (4-5)
deputies for Fall 2005. Responsibilities will include some or all
of the following: researching and drafting grant applications;
corresponding with professors, city organizations, and financial
institutions to solicit donations for the CPU fundraiser, to be
held in late fall; and managing the CPU budget. Our Treasurer
plans to study abroad in the spring semester — deputies will be
eligible for election to the Treasurer position upon her departure.

E. Director of Publications: The Publisher is seeking 2-3 new
deputies for Fall 2005. Responsibilities will include, but are not
limited to: researching and writing issue updates, to be distributed
on campus; researching and writing a voter's guide for the upcoming
New York City elections. In addition, Publishing deputies will
have the opportunity to report on political events throughout New
York City, to be published weekly on the CPU website.
