1. A CPU Event: "The K Street Gang: The Rise and Fall of the Republican Machine" - Matthew Continetti

Date: TONIGHT, 04/20
Time: 7:30PM
Location: 517 Hamilton Hall

Description: Join C-SPAN and author Matthew Continetti for a book signing and discussion of THE K STREET GANG: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE REPUBLICAN MACHINE.

From the Random House Press Release:

"No one can argue with the stunning success of the 1994 Republican Revolution.  But what happens when idealists come to power?  How do they grow, develop, peak, and ultimately collapse?  In Weekly Standard writer Matthew Continetti's eye-opening and timely THE K STREET GANG: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE REPUBLICAN MACHINE he shows us what happens when you go to Washington to do good but end up staying to do well, including the shocking stories of key players like Jack Abramoff, Tom DeLay, Ralph Reed, and Grover Norquist, among many others.

Combining in-depth reporting with analysis, the book looks at lobbying, how the Republican Party has become captive to special interests, and how those special interests distort American politics.  By climbing in bed with the K Street lobbyists, conservatives have put themselves on the side of South Pacific sweatshops and Indian gaming interests."

About the Author:

Matthew Continetti graduated from Columbia University in 2003 and has been a full time reporter at the Weekly Standard since 2004, where he is currently a staff writer.  His articles and reviews have appeared in the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and other publications and he has appeared as a commentator on Fox News, CNN, C-SPAN, and the BBC.
