Company Description
The Partnership for Public Service (www.ourpublicservice.org) is a
nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing public
service through a campaign of educational efforts, policy research,
public-private partnerships and legislative advocacy. By improving
public understanding and confidence in government, particularly among
young people, the Partnership mission fills a critical and unique role
by helping to recruit and retain excellence in the federal workforce.
The Partnership was founded by Samuel J. Heyman in 2001 and is
incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Partnership is
located in Washington, D.C.

Job Qualifications
Strong commitment to public service issues: desire to learn about issues
affecting the federal government: desire and ability to interact with
other organizations including those in the non-profit, academic,
private, media, and governmental sectors: excellent writing and
analytical skills: good presentation skills: ability to work well in a
fast-paced ever-changing environment and to work on multiple assignments
in a given time frame: strong interpersonal skills and the ability to
work as a member of a team: current student or recent graduate of
undergraduate or graduate program: proficiency in web-based research and
Microsoft Office programs. Interested students or graduates must MAIL
the following components: (1) A cover letter answering the following
questions: Why do you want to intern at the Partnership? What prior
skills, knowledge, and work experience are relevant to working at the
Partnership? How do you hope to carry on with your interest in public
service in the future? What do you hope to learn or gain from your
internship experience? How did you hear about the Partnership? What
Partnership team(s) most interest you and why? (2) A resume (3) An
academic transcript (unofficial is fine) (4) List of three references:
name, affiliation, postal address, current phone number, and email
address (if available). Letters of recommendation included with
applications are welcome as a substitute for listed references. (5) Two
writing samples (3-5 pages each)

Job Description
Interns are assigned to one of the Partnerships teams based on their
skills and interests. During their tenure, interns are fully integrated
within these teams projects and meetings, as well as having
opportunities to interact with and provide general support to all
program areas the Partnership, depending on their individual interests
and the organizations needs. Listed below are the teams to which fellows
are assigned: 1. Education and Outreach: The Call to Serve team carries
out the Partnerships education and outreach activities, with particular
emphases on reaching job seekers on college campuses and on connecting
campus career professionals with federal recruiters. 2. Legislative: The
Partnerships Government Affairs team represents the Partnership on
Capitol Hill and to the executive branch. 3. Communications: The
Communications Team publicizes the organizations research and
programmatic activities to the news media and the general public. The
team also works to educate the public about federal workforce issues. 4.
Research: The Research Team seeks to identify strengths, weaknesses and
potential for reform, and to develop a roadmap for reform, within the
federal civil service. 5. The Agency Partnerships Team is our in-house
pro-bono consulting outfit. The team seeks to help agencies improve the
way they hire, develop and reward employees: build networks to encourage
collaboration among the public and private sectors: and showcase the
developing management trends in the federal government. 6. Development
and Event Planning: The Development team coordinates fundraising at the
Partnership for Public Service. Activities touch corporations,
foundations and individual donors. The Event Planning team coordinates
our national awards program - the Service to America Medals - along with
planning fundraisers and other events.
