Position: Paid Internship Communications

Grocery Manufacturers of America has a vacancy for a full-time
Communication Intern to provide administrative support for
Communications department. The Communications Department serves as
the main contact between GMA and print and broadcast reporters and
editors nationwide. Communications interns aid in producing,
proofing and distributing press releases and studies, booking
appearances/interviews, answering press and public information
requests, reading and clipping newspapers, updating press lists and
analyzing editorial response to GMA issues.

This position is available immediately.

Specific Responsibilities
- Format, produce and distribute internal and external
correspondence (letters, memos, faxes).
- Scan assigned publications for relevant industry news and
issues.
- Screen press calls and route to the appropriate Communications
staff member.
- Schedule appointments, meetings, reservations, transportation,
etc.
- Provide telephone coverage for Vice President, Communications
screen calls as well as make periodic phone inquiries.
- Proof-read and edit articles, newsletters, press releases as
requested.
- Maintain Vice President¡¦s incoming and outgoing
correspondence files.
- Process and file weekly departmental bills and invoices.
- Responsible for full utilization of computer and advanced
technology (Word 6.0, Power Point and introductory desk top
publishing).
- Create Excel spreadsheets and mail merges, as requested.
- Assist with department filing and record keeping. Create
and/or maintain all committee/mailing lists in Ablaze and Microsoft
Outlook.
- With Assistant, provide support for committees, including the
Communications Committee.
- Compile press lists for specific beats.
- Update and maintain media tracking list.
- Provide switchboard relief for receptionist.
- Additional duties as assigned.

Qualification And Personal Attribute Requirements:
- College graduate or currently pursuing college degree.
- Previous office environment experience: proficient in performing
general office duties
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Hard-worker, quick-learner, ability to meet deadlines with
accuracy
- Professional demeanor and telephone etiquette
- Familiar with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication skills, good writing skills

GMA offers a metro-accessible location. Compensation is $10/hr.
Hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday (with occasional
