1. Upcoming Event Congressman Charles Rangel
10/10 at 2:00 pm
Satow Room, Alfred Lerner Hall
Congressman Charles B. Rangel is serving his 17th term as the
Representative from the 15th Congressional District, comprising
East and Central Harlem, the Upper West Side, and Washington
Heights/Inwood. Congressman Rangel is the ranking member on the
Committee on Ways and Means, Deputy Democratic Whip of the House
of Representatives, a Chairman of the Board of the Democratic
Congressional Campaign Committee, Dean of the New York State
Congressional Delegation, in addition, Congressman Rangel is a
founding member and former Chairman of the Congressional Black
Caucus.

around campus!

3. CPU Voter Registration
This Friday, October 8th is also the last day to register to vote in
New York. In response, the Columbia Political Union will be tabling
on college walk this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

4. Upcoming Event Presidential Debate Watch Party
10/8 at 9:00 pm
Second Floor Piano Lounge, Alfred Lerner Hall
Join your fellow students as we get together to watch the second
Presidential debate this Friday.
Pizza and soda will be served.

5. Open Eboard Position - Events Coordinator
A position has just opened on our Executive Board for a new Events
Coordinator.
The Events Coordinator is responsible for all stages of the events
process, including researching possible events, drafting and
sending speaker invitations, reserving rooms, constructing panels,
setting up the room on the day of the event, and interacting with
the speakers he or she has brought to campus. In addition, the
Events Coordinator must attend all Executive Board meetings and
hold independent Events Committee meetings.

6. Event with Mrs. Ahood Al-Fadhal, Basra City Councilmember

Room 304, Barnard Hall
An Iraqi woman recently elected to the Basra city council, Mrs.
Ahood Al-Fadhal discusses the current state of affairs in Iraq,
specifically the role of women in the new state.
Sponsored by Barnard, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies,
the Columbia College Republicans, Students United for America and
Netzach Yisrael.

7. The Impact of the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election on China-U.S.
Relations

Professor Andrew J. Nathan, Chair of Columbia University's Political
Science Department and world renowned expert on Chinese politics,
will address issues affecting China-U.S. relations, including the
upcoming U.S. Presidential Election, North Korea, Taiwan, and human
rights.
Pizza and drinks will be served.

8. Political Science Students' Association "Profs and Pizza" Event
with Professors Nadia Urbinati (Columbia) and Stephen Holmes (NYU
Law)
10/6 at 6:30 pm
Lindsay Rogers Room, 7th floor of the International Affairs Building
The event is the first in the Political Science Students'
Association’s annual "Profs & Pizza" lecture/discussion series.
Professor Nadia Urbinati will be holding an interview/discussion
with NYU Law Professor Stephen Holmes, advisor to the authors of the
new democratic constitution of Iraq. They will be discussing Iraq's
sovereignty and new constitution and the concept of foreign
influence on the establishment of these. A Q&A/full discussion
period will follow. The event will take place on Wednesday,
October 6th at 6:30 PM in the Lindsay Rogers Room of IAB (7th
floor).

9. Democratic GAIN Campus Tour at Columbia
10/9 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm
10/10 from 9:30pm to 4:30pm

Aimed at young activists, the Democratic GAIN Campus Tour will offer
training sessions and panel discussions with some of the nation’s
top political professionals on how youth can make a difference in
November. This will be an intensive one and a half day training
that will help students reach out to individuals on their campus
and in their community. The Democratic GAIN Campus Tour will
specialize in training participants on Get Out The Vote (GOTV),
Voting Rights, Promote & Protect, Election Day Operations, Advance
and Attacking The Issues!
