CPU EVENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. Joseph Rome, the Events Coordinator, is looking for Events
Committee Members.

Events Committee Members assist the Events Coordinator with all
aspects of putting together an event, such as inviting speakers,
constructing panels, setting up the room on the day of the event,
and interacting with the speakers they have helped to bring to
campus.

If you are interested in becoming an Events Committee Member, email

Are you interested in helping register people to vote? The Columbia
Political Union will be conducting massive nonpartisan voter

4. Event Co-Sponsored by the CPU – Columbia University Medical
Center Election Forum

9/21 at 4pm
Alumni Auditorium on the Medical Center Campus

The Columbia University Medical Center Election Forum will provide
students, faculty, staff, and others an opportunity to educate
themselves and discuss many of the important health cares issues at
stake in the 2004 election. It is cohosted by the P&S Club, the
Office of Government and Community Affairs, and the Columbia
Political Union. It will be moderated by Medical Center Associate
Dean for Government and Community Affairs, Ross A. Frommer, the
panel will include Steven Kroll, Vice President for Government
Affairs and External Relations at the Health Care Association
of New York State, Jon Cohen, Chief Medical Officer of the North
Shore/LIJ Health System and a Senior Advisor for Health Care to the
Kerry Campaign, and John Faso, a Partner at the law firm of Manatt,
Phelps, and Phillips and former Minority Leader of the New York
State Assembly. Dean Gerald D. Fischbach and P&S third year
student Emily Rothbaum will also make remarks. The forum will take
place Tuesday, September 21st at 4pm in the Alumni Auditorium on the
Medical Center Campus, 168th Street between Broadway and Fort
Washington Avenue (1/2 block from the 169th Street 1/9/A/C subway
stop). A reception will follow in the foyer.

5. Democratic GAIN Campus Tour at Columbia

10/9 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm
10/10 from 9:30pm to 4:30pm

Aimed at young activists, the Democratic GAIN Campus Tour will offer
training sessions and panel discussions with some of the nation’s
top political professionals on how youth can make a difference in
November. This will be an intensive one and a half day training
that will help students reach out to individuals on their campus
and in their community. The Democratic GAIN Campus Tour will
specialize in training participants on Get Out The Vote (GOTV),
Voting Rights, Promote & Protect, Election Day Operations, Advance
and Attacking The Issues!
