CPU EVENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. The Columbia Political Union Presents:
Fernando Ferrer
TODAY, Monday, March 28 at 8:00 pm
Satow Room, Alfred Lerner Hall
Mr. Ferrer was Bronx Borough President for 14 years. After losing a
primary run-off for the Democratic nomination in the 2001 mayoral
race, Mr. Ferrer became president of the Drum Major Institute, a
progressive think-tank founded in 1961 to support the work of
Martin Luther King, Jr. Mr. Ferrer began his political career upon
being elected to the City Council at the age of 23.
Recent polls have identified Mr. Ferrer as the leader among
Democratic mayoral candidates.
Mr. Ferrer's appearance is part of the CPU's efforts to bring all
mayoral candidates to campus. Per University rules, these lectures
are not, however, official campaign stops.

6. Suggest a topic for the new CPU issue primer
In an effort to keep our membership up to date on current political
issues, the Columbia Political Union periodically publishes issue
primers. A primer is a general review of an issue
or an event and is up to 3000 words in length. Past topics have
included EU expansion, North Korea, stem-cell research, and others.
Do you have a suggestion for the topic of our next primer? If so,
please email CPU Publisher Mariya Konovalova
(mak2033@columbia.edu).
