The Columbia Political Union Presents the New York City Mayoral
Candidate Speaker Series:

In an effort to keep the Columbia community informed in the coming
election, the Columbia Political Union is endeavoring to bring all
the candidates for New York City Mayor to campus. Per University
rules, these lectures are not, however, official campaign stops.

Gifford Miller, New York City Council Speaker

Monday, 2/14 at 12:30 pm
Room 101, Jerome Greene Hall

Elected unanimously by his colleagues to the post of City Council
Speaker on January 9, 2002, Gifford Miller leads the legislative
branch of New York's municipal government, overseeing the passage of
all new laws and the City's $47 billion annual budget. Speaker
Miller, a Democrat and lifelong New Yorker, was fist elected to the
City Council in 1996.

Co-sponsored by the American Constitution Society, the Columbia Law
School Young Democrats, and the Columbia College Democrats.

2. The Columbia Political Union Presents:

Congressman Anthony Weiner

Tuesday, 2/22 at 1:00 pm

Anthony Weiner has been a member of the United States House of
Representatives since 1999. He represents the New York City boroughs
of Queens and Brooklyn. Weiner was elected to Congress in 1999,
taking the seat vacated by Schumer when he was elected to the
Senate. As a Democratic Whip, Weiner is a leading spokesman for
Democrats across the nation.

Congressman Weiner is currently a candidate in the New York City
mayoral race. This event is part of a series including Speaker
Miller, Fernando Ferrer, and others.

3. The Columbia Political Union Presents:

Fernando Ferrer

Monday, 3/28
Location TBA

Mr. Ferrer was Bronx Borough President for 14 years. [[After losing
the Democratic primary in the 2001 mayoral race in a run-off,]]* Mr. Ferrer became
president of the Drum Major Institute, a progressive think-tank
founded in 1961 to support the work of Martin Luther King, Jr. Mr. Ferrer was Bronx Borough President for 14 years. After winning
the Democratic primary in the 2001 Mayoral Race but losing to
current Mayor Bloomberg in the general election, Mr. Ferrer became
president of the Drum Major Institute, a progressive think-tank
Mr.
Ferrer began his political career upon being elected to the City
Council at the age of 23.

Mr. Ferrer's appearance is part of the CPU's efforts to bring all
mayoral candidates to campus. Per University rules, these lectures
are not, however, official campaign stops.

Joe Trippi

Wednesday, 3/2 at 7:00 pm
Location TBA

Joe Trippi was born in California and began his political career
working on Edward Kennedy's presidential campaign in 1980. As a
campaign manager, Trippi managed the Iowa caucuses and several other
key states for the Mondale for President campaign. In 1988, Trippi
was the Deputy National Campaign Manager for Richard Gephardt's
presidential campaign. In 2004, he was the National Campaign
Manager for Howard Dean's campaign.

Mr. Trippi will deliver a lecture and conduct a book signing.

5. Washington Internship Program Information Session

A representative from the Washington Internship Program is coming to
campus!

The Washington Internship Program places students in internships in
a variety of fields including government, law, media, the arts,
journalism, education, medicine, computer science, health,
business, and more. With over twenty years of experience, we have
really refined the process of matching interns with the right

if the placement turns out to be an improper fit for some reason,

Participants in the Washington Internship Program are placed only
