(1)As you might imagine, the current state of world affairs has affected our Spring speaker series. An inevitable downside of bringing to campus those people who make and break the news is having to cancel events featuring these fantastic speakers when their other commitments demand their attention. Thus, ABCNEWS senior correspondent Claire Shipman will not be able to make it tonight, but we hope to reschedule the event to later in April. In addition, our plans to host Kasey Pipes, Associate Director of the White House Office of Strategic Initiatives (i.e. Karl Rove’s deputy) have been postponed indefinitely.

A letter from Emily Lloyd
“Dear Student Aid officers and Student Leaders:Executive Vice President for Government and Community Affairs “As you know, New York State is facing massive deficits for the coming year. Although there are many positive aspects of the Governor's budget for research universities, the budget proposal contains major reductions in student aid. The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU), of which Columbia is a member, has created an online advocacy program to allow you to send, quickly and easily, an email to legislators and the Governor to support higher education programs. “Simply go to http://www.cicu.org/support_now.php to support student aid or stop by 302 Low Library to get a postcard to send to legislators.” For the full text of the letter, please visit https://www1.columbia.edu/sec/bboard/cpu_bboard/msg00088.html
