Treasury
The Treasurer is seeking 4-5 deputies for Fall 2005. Responsibilities will include some or all of the following: researching and drafting grant applications; corresponding with professors, city organizations, and financial institutions to solicit donations for the CPU fundraiser, to be held in late fall; and managing the CPU budget. Our Treasurer plans to study abroad in the spring semesterdeputies will be eligible for election to the Treasurer position upon her departure.
Events
The Events Coordinator is seeking five deputies for Fall 2005. Several deputies will be placed in charge of our new speaking series. All deputies will assist the Events Coordinator with tasks including, but not limited to: drafting and sending invitations to potential speakers; organizing expert panels and debates; corresponding with invitees' offices and advance staff; working with Columbia administrators to plan event logistics; and various other aspects of event staging. Deputies will have the opportunity to meet and work closely with our distinguished guests.
Publications
The Publisher is seeking 2-3 new deputies for Fall 2005. Responsibilites include researching and writing issue updates, to be distributed on campus, and researching and writing a voter's guide for the upcoming New York City elections. In addition, Publishing deputies will have the opportunity to report on political events throughout New York City, to be published weekly on the CPU website.
Technical
The webmaster is seeking a deputy to help with the taping, editing, and production of vidoes for our events, to be placed on the media section of the CPU website.
Communications
The Communications Committee will accept 2 deputies for the academic year 2005-2006. Responsibilities and activities include but are not limited to: working with on- and off-campus print and television media, conducting outreach to community groups, publicizing events, and handling all activities related to the public image of the Columbia Political Union. The deputies should also expect to work to establish contacts and build presence within the graduate schools and the larger city-wide political community. Furthermore, deputies will be responsible for helping to create and distribute press releases for all CPU events, which will take place in conjunction with our regular flyering and leafleting activities.
Political Review
The CPR Editor-in-Chief is seeking four deputies for Fall 2005 - two Deputy Art Editors (DAE), and two Deputy Design Editors (DDE). DAEs will work with the Art Editor to commission and design illustrations for the magazine to prepare them for publication. DAEs will be responsible for assigning artists to specific articles and, when applicable, helping them to design the illustrations and images. Deputies will also be expected to prepare art work for publication. The DDEs will work with the Design Editor to prepare the magazine for printing. This will involve laying out articles and editing illustrations and advertisements. While experience with Quark is preferred, general enthuasiasm is all you need to be considered for the job.
